Closure and change…that’s been on my mind lately.
The glow in the east from the setting sun is a metaphor for the recent passing of my mother. So is the change in the season from summer to fall.
This painting is of the the Lachine Canal in Montreal, looking eastward, as the sun was setting in the west.
Everything in this painting reminds me of the natural cycles of life and nature.
The memories and the legacy of our loved ones are like the sunset’s afterglow in the east – the place where we continue living, and looking forward to tomorrow’s dawn and the blessing of a new day.
The water flowing through the Lachine Canal is one with the vast expanse of the lake and the ocean. So too is this temporary life here as we flow from time to eternity.
The autumn leaves on the trees are beautiful in their dying. The loss and sorrow of death bring closure. But with closure comes change…and it is all good.
I’ve called this painting “The golden evening brightens in the east.”
Christ in you, the hope of glory. That’s why glory matters.
