The story of Jesus walking on the stormy waters of the Sea of Galilee brings me tremendous comfort and appreciation for God’s goodness and grace.
There were times in my life when I simultaneously feared and had faith. I couldn’t understand how the two could coexist. I kept focusing on Jesus’s statement, “O you of little faith.”
Today, after reading Matthew. 14:22-36 I gained a new perspective.
I was reminded that Jesus rescued Peter from his fear, even though his little faith caused him to step out into the water. When Peter saw the turbulent waters around him, his faith was shaken, and he began to sink.
God will do great things when we have little faith, even when we fear.
On reflection, I recalled that I’ve seen it happen in my life. Just a little faith, the size of a mustard seed, moved the mountains that seemed to threaten my ability to trust in God’s guidance and provision.
A few years ago, I feared that the nonprofit organization that I was in charge of was going to be bankrupt. My only option was to have faith. My little faith resulted in a major construction project being completed during the pandemic, so that more people could be served. No employees were laid off, the services continued, and we ended the year with a budget surplus.
I am sharing this to encourage anyone reading this.
God is good! When you feel unsure, name the fear and step out in faith like Peter. The arm of the Lord is always there to guide, lead and save you!
Christ in you, the hope of glory. That’s why glory matters!
