“It’s not a bad life, just a bad day.” I recall seeing this quote on Facebook some time ago. A few days ago, I had what I would call a ‘bad day.’
I retreated from the world and channeled all my energy on the next two days into painting this scene from a picture shared some time ago by my Facebook friend.
As I painted, I wondered whether the picture was taken at sunset or sunrise. Either way, sunsets and sunrises are metaphors for closure and new beginnings. And then there was an ‘aha moment.’
A bad day is a gift – a time to pause and question what is making a good life seem to be ‘bad’ on just that one day.
As I painstakingly created this painting, I counted my blessings, and I couldn’t stop. The memory of the ‘bad day’ melted as I reminded myself to spend more time making things better, and accepting the things I cannot change.
Today is a new day offering a fresh start.
This painting is my interpretation of my friend’s picture of Salmon Bay, Québec that will forever serve as a reminder of the importance of closure and the hopeful promise of new beginnings.
This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118v24
Christ in you, the hope of glory. That’s why glory matters.
