In the early days of spring 2023, my Facebook friend posted a picture she took of the lily pond on the University of the West Indies’ Mona campus,in Jamaica. As soon as I saw the picture, I knew I had to paint it because it reminded of the lyrics of a song I used to sing at school…
“What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding…The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming…”
I noticed that although the water lilies were blooming, the two large trees that were beautifully reflected in the pond, were not budding. Interestingly, the trees and their bare branches look to me like a couple in love doing a celebratory dance, like a waltz, or even a polka!
On this Mother’s Day without my mother, I want to believe that this scene is speaking to me.
In 2023 it was Mom’s first Mother’s Day without her children, but it was her first Mother’s Day united with my Dad, the love of her life, who made her a mother!
Like these two leafless trees, Mom and Dad’s work on earth has been done. Yet they thrive in unison, celebrating all that was and now all that is, in eternity. I am comforted. It’s all good!
Happy blessed Mother’s ‘s Day to all Mothers, especially those celebrating their first Mother’s Day as mothers, and those, who like me are filled with love and gratitude for their mothers who are celebrating this day for the first time in eternity.
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you…”
Isaiah 66v13
Christ in you, the hope of glory. That’s why glory matters.
